Job Description: Trade Operations -Nariman Point.


Department: Trade Finance Operations

 


1. Role Objective

To handle and execute end-to-end trade finance and remittance operations for the IBU in compliance with IFSCA regulations, internal policies, and international banking standards. Ensure efficient processing, risk mitigation, and high service quality for non-resident, corporate, and trade clients.


2. Key Responsibilities

 

A. Import Operations

  • Process import LCs, LC amendments/acceptances, and settlements.
  • Scrutinize import documents and OFAC/AML guidelines.
  • Handle import remittances and overdue monitoring.
  • Coordinate with clients, correspondents, and internal teams for discrepancy handling & smooth execution .

B. Export Operations

  • Handle export LC advising, confirmations, document negotiation, and bill discounting.
  • Process export collections, remittances, and realization follow-up.
  • Ensure compliance with ICC rules and IFSCA guidelines.

C. Guarantees

  • Issue and amend Bank Guarantees as per URDG rules and internal credit approvals.
  • Maintain BG registers, commission recovery, diary dates, and closure processes.

D. Inward and Outward Remittances

  • Process SWIFT-based cross-border payments for trade and non-trade flows.
  • Validate sanctions screening results, KYC details, and purpose codes as per IBU requirements.
  • Ensure timely and error-free outward remittances.

E. Compliance and Risk

  • Ensure strict adherence to IFSCA IBU framework, AML, KYC, and sanctions guidelines.
  • Monitor transactions for unusual or suspicious activity and escalate where required.
  • Ensure accurate record maintenance, audit compliance, and internal control adherence.

F. Customer Service and Stakeholder Management

  • Provide timely responses to client queries on trade transactions, SWIFT messages, and documentation.
  • Coordinate with RMs, product teams, operations units, and treasury.
  • Deliver high service quality with minimal operational errors.

G. System and Process

  • Execute transactions on trade finance systems (e.g., Tradepro,iTRAC, Finnacle & bank-specific platforms).
  • Ensure accurate SWIFT formatting and message authentication.
  • Support process improvements, automation initiatives, and operational efficiency enhancements.


3. Required Skills and Competencies

  • SOP/Notifications periodically review, and renewal will be the key task. 
  • Strong knowledge of trade finance products: Import, Export, BGs, Collections, and Remittances.
  • Understanding of IBU operations, IFSCA regulatory framework, and cross-border payment guidelines.
  • Ability to scrutinize trade documents with high accuracy.
  • Good communication, coordination, and customer-handling skills.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and banking systems.


4. Qualifications and Experience

  • Graduate or Postgraduate in Commerce, Finance, or related fields.
  • 10 to 15 years of experience in Trade Finance Operations (IBU or international banking experience preferred).
  • CDCS or trade certification is an added advantage.
