Role Purpose

Senior Associate Legal Counsel will be responsible for managing and supporting litigation matters involving the Bank across the North Zone. The role requires providing effective legal representation, litigation management, regulatory support, and legal advisory services to safeguard the Bank's interests. The incumbent will handle civil, criminal, consumer, and regulatory matters, coordinate with external counsel, and work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure timely and effective resolution of disputes.


Key Responsibilities

Litigation Management

  • Manage and oversee litigation matters involving the Bank, including civil, criminal, consumer, and regulatory proceedings.
  • Coordinate with and instruct external counsel for legal opinions, drafting, case strategy, and representation before various judicial and quasi-judicial forums.
  • Monitor the progress of ongoing cases and ensure timely filing of pleadings, responses, and other legal documents.
  • Evaluate legal risks associated with litigation and recommend appropriate courses of action.

Court Representation & Regulatory Proceedings

  • Represent the Bank before Courts, Tribunals, Consumer Commissions, and other statutory or regulatory authorities, as required.
  • Support and facilitate appearances by external advocates and ensure effective case preparation and documentation.

Legal Advisory

  • Provide timely legal advice and guidance to branches, business units, and other internal stakeholders on litigation-related issues.
  • Assist in developing strategies to mitigate legal and operational risks arising from disputes and regulatory actions.
  • Interpret and advise on applicable laws, regulations, and judicial developments impacting the Bank.

Liaison & Stakeholder Management

  • Liaise with Law Enforcement Agencies, regulatory authorities, government departments, and other stakeholders in relation to complaints, investigations, and legal proceedings involving the Bank, its employees, and customers.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to obtain necessary records, documentation, and inputs for litigation matters.

Drafting & Documentation

  • Draft, review, and vet legal notices, replies, written statements, affidavits, applications, legal opinions, complaints, and other litigation-related documents.
  • Prepare responses to legal notices, consumer complaints, and regulatory communications.
  • Ensure legal documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and compliant with applicable legal requirements.

Reporting & Case Management

  • Maintain comprehensive and updated records of all litigation matters handled within the Zone.
  • Ensure timely and accurate updation of Litigation MIS, Litigation Management System (LMS), and other internal reporting portals.
  • Prepare periodic litigation reports and management updates on case status, legal exposure, and key developments.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B.) from a recognized university.
  • Valid enrolment with the Bar Council, wherever applicable.


Experience

  • 4 to 5 years of post-qualification experience in litigation and legal advisory.
  • Experience in the banking, financial services, insurance, or commercial sector will be preferred.
  • Exposure to civil, criminal, consumer, banking, recovery, and regulatory matters.
  • Experience in handling legal notices, court proceedings, and coordination with external counsel.

  • Strong knowledge of banking laws, civil laws, criminal laws, consumer laws, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Excellent legal drafting and analytical skills.
  • Effective stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously and work under strict timelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Proficiency in legal documentation, case management systems, and MS Office applications.
